Have any DV winners got decent job in USA? I see most of DV winners landing in Gas station or restaurant jobs. This makes me feel jealous because they have no degree , no good experience and they are permanent resident of USA!!!!! But some of our friends have good education, decent job, and ample of experience and they still have to worry about their status. Why doesn't US Government pass a bill that allows only masters or PHD eligible for DV? I know it is a possible brain drain for a country like Nepal, but at least this helps possible डेक्ची driver to flock to USA. just my opinion.... i welcome your logical anger

Hi PON2035: I admire your far-sighted vision of Nepal, as you hoping for the president of Nepal by year 2035. At least, it gives me some spark of hope for the time being. Well, to the point, as you have welcomed any logical anger (however I don't agree with logical anger rather a logical confrontation). But anyway, you seems like you have a handful of datas on DV winners, especially our fellowcountrymen's. Or perhaps you have been only in a close vicinity of A-Z status adjusted well educated and experienced Nepalese but not so educated DV winners. That is a very weak data you have offended and defended on this case. I don't blame you because many of us, Nepalese, act like a horse wearing that thing, what you called, I called Ekka lagayeko Ghoda. Just seeing whatever lies infront of him, but not side. Please try to broaden your horizon. By the way, it is a way easier to apply for a Green Card from the United States if you hold a PhD or even masters and having a great experience on a respective work force is like a cherry topping on the ice-cream. They do not have to go through the Department of Labor and automatically Labor exempt which makes their lives way easier than others. What else you want more from the US as it already stretched its extreme limits so long as the immigration is concerned. Just because someone has won a DV lottery because of his/her luck and not having good education landed on such a menial jobs does not give us being so much bitter and wants to change the system. Since the name implies- Lottery- so whoever is lucky, got his good fortune and he/she just headed towards the land of opportunity to test his further fortune. Let's not lament on someones good fortune rather feel happy for them. Now you remind me of these words I saw on the back of the truck on my way to airport, the day I left Kathmandu for the land of opportunity " Samay Se Aagay Aur Bhagya Se Adhig Kuch Nahin Miltaa...!!!" (Pardon my Hindi and also Pardon on bringing fate on your thread) HD

Thanks for your polite and logical confrontation....(मलाइ सित्तल भाको छैन दादा) I do agree that most of our folks are like "EKKA LAGAYEKO GODHA" but I disagree on your suggestion to stretch my horizon. I am in US since list 5 years and have been introduced to many nepalis. These are my experience with nepali folks.... 1) I have seen many Neaplese friends re enrolling in college for number of times just to maintain their status. most of them have already done their masters. 2) I have not seen any Nepali DV Holder working in any good company. The max I have seen is manager of Indian restaurant. If you know any DV holders who have a good job and living then I would say that is an exception. If you came on DV and have good job then you are an exception :) at last, I hope you know one commercial in nepali regarding Family planning.... भाग्य तेस्तो हैन humdrum करम तेस्तो भन

. I see it different. You elite nepali here in US. I do not know how you people got Degrees. Everything just learning by heart?.How did you write thesis? Collecting thesis written by others in internet data bank. You do not compare with the other Nationalities, but you do compare only with other nepalis. I do not care where they work and what they do here. They are working defnitely harder than you guys. They are working physically. Not like you writing research report, pressing bottoms on keyboard, letting other do the job.America will be short of physically working people soon. We nepali have overflow of this class of people. By the time you people with degrees go back to nepal and use your elite brain to develop nepal, these people will have saved start capital for Nepalese infrastructure at least some billion dollars worth. What nepal needs right now is people like you with big brains to prepare future plans and change nepali mentalities. How can you be so descriminitive.I am very happy that this normal class people are allowed to come to USA.America was not built by Degree guys. USA is made by ordinary class of immigrants and slaves from Africa. It was not hightech. It started with cowboys and horses. You cannot guarantee that your children will maintain your status either. They can end up in New York street selling drugs and begging money in underground subway. You never know. How many president of USA are born in rich family except George Bush. Most of the presidents of USA have very hard and difficult family background. You never know one day one of DV Lottery winner without degree may become president of USA.It is possible you see. You are enjoying freedom and human rights. So please go back all guys with the degrees to nepal change. 1. to help establish real democracy 2. to set a Infrastructure plan 3. to show that you care your country Be happy that a nepali has more chance to win DV lottery than dirty minded Indians or Pakistanis who cheat the bank and roll the money over and over. Why are you jealous of our nepalis in US. Is the US for only elites? only for guys with Degree. You are a degree holder. I donot know how you got it. You are still filthy minded.I thinks you should clean up your dirty stain your brain. You can use this space for other creative thinking. I do not have any degree so I will be working here in USA working in Pizza huts or Motels or Doughnut shop or Mcdonalds to help nepal financially. Every quarter of dollar what I earn goes ot nepal every month with money transfer. My family in Nepal sold their land and house to send me to USA.They finananced all from Nepal so that I could finish my study earlier. If I had to make the money myself I would have to wait at least six years. I hope you got the point. Plan your trip to nepal soon and please help her, Nepal is crying for help.I will be following you.

Hi PON2035: With such a bold alias but with such a poor confrontration makes me think twice. I do not know which part of the United States you are residing now, but my friend, I understand your thinking. Do you know the truth? Or do you want to know the truth?? I think, you can not handle the truth??? Just joking hai...!!! You know the literacy rate in the early 1950's in Nepal was 5%, but it has grown substantially since then with around 45% (++) literacy rate right now with the proportion of male literacy vs female literacy in the ratio of 62% to 27%. And not to mention the recent political turmoil and the uncertainity of our country. I am so proud of those all Nepalese who are working so hard with their extreme efforts to survive with dignity in this newfoundland, it does not matter whether speaking with the broken english in some gas station or defending thesis on his/her PhD somewhere in the elite universities of the USA. My respect to all of them because to reach such a height with so much meager opportunities as being born in such a remote country like Nepal, I am so proud of each one of them. At least they are doing with their fullest effort to survive rather than those illegal Mexicans or illegal Chinese who aggregate within their own types and speaks only their own mother tongues without any identity (papers). If I have a choice of maintaining my status with a legal label and non legal status, I would rather choice the former one. Hang on there bro' -Hang on!!! Everyone has a day... HD

Mr. President, common dude tell me when Nepali started commin to US with intellectual visa[student in your word].And how many of them are really in that rank of intelegence now.You said you are living in US for 5 yrs, have you ever tried to analyze about those all students who are sorrouding you and what is there status now .Again the word status here referst to their educational status not residential. So don't tell me now they didnt get the oppertunity the way DV holder gets as soon as he enters in this land. The truth is if you wanna start to discuss in this topic , you will be the one to loose cuz you are just wasting your time.To start a new life in new place is tough for everyone and especially the guy who couldn't study in englih medium school and can't speak english the way you can .So ,that makes him to work in gas station and indian restaurants. And he enjoyes it and most of them have enthusiasm to further study too and I know most of them are doing the best what they capable of .It doesnt matter as a gas station attendent, or as a helper in a Indian restaurant. The point is , look at yourself and analyze yourself first befor picking on someone else.I'm from the eastcoast of US , and i have been to ocean city, MD in summer and have seen the hardworker nepali youths who are killing themself to continue their study.I do admire and greatly appreciate their hardwork for their carrer. And my best wishes to all the Nepali of this universe for their prosperity and success. And for all DV haters lets inspire all the Nepali for good rather than being jelous , lets be positive toward everything friends.Happy New Year to you all .I wish for the peace n prosperity of our motherland and all the Nepali. Thanks.

Although I am not a DV winner, I don't think all of the DV winner are working in burger king or something like that. We should not generalize everyone. I have seen DV holder engineers working in good companies here in USA. They don't have to go to college too. It's good if we graduated from here could get some opportunity as PON2035 said. But you cannot hate DV holders because they are lucky. This is a "Land of Opportunity". If you try you can succeed. It is what Darwin said "Survival of Fittest". Fit in here and survive. Don't say bad to those innocent people who got DV. I know its frustating to re enroll in the school again to maintain the status. But that's our need. What can we do? We cannot go home with no money in hand. The best thing is that we all have filled the EDV this time and lets hope that the luck will find us. Lets hope for better and be positive. Peace!!!! :)>-

Hi Humdrum i agree about what you said:I am so proud of those all Nepalese who are working so hard with their extreme efforts to survive with dignity in this newfoundland," ...and I'm also proud for the courage that we have of achieving our goals but...i don't agree in this part: "At least they are doing with their fullest effort to survive rather than those illegal Mexicans or illegal Chinese who aggregate within their own types and speaks only their own mother tongues without any identity (papers). If I have a choice of maintaining my status with a legal label and non legal status, I would rather choice the former one." why do you have to prejudge other peoples? you do not know their needs and neither you must generalize.

Just for the shake of an example of a Mexican... one of the editors of the prestigious “Nature Medicine" is no other than a US based Mexican Scientist....sometimes we all commit mistakes by making hasty generalization… so nothing very much unusual only to HD though (BTW, came to know about him during manuscript submission from our lab) Juan Carlos López, Editor Juan Carlos López was born in Mexico in 1967. He started his scientific career in the mid 80s at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, looking for neurochemical correlates of memory formation. Juan Carlos obtained his Ph.D. from Columbia University under the supervision of Eric Kandel, and carried out postdoctoral work at the Instituto Cajal in Madrid. He is the author of two scientific books and, before joining Nature Medicine, Juan Carlos was the Editor of Nature Reviews Neuroscience in London. http://www.nature.com/nm/about/about_eds/index.html
