I was just wondering how many people have gotten their h1 but no job as of yet. the market looks pretty bad and it seems like it will be hard to get a job sometimes soon. No one can spend their entire life on bench!
So, the back up would be to apply for canadian residency. I am on the process of doing it. I have gathered almost all of the documents now. I am sure there are lot of people who want to do it.
I am starting this thread to talk to people who have started their process or are thinking about it in hopes that if we all talk to eachother and talk about the process, may be we could do it ourselves and save the lawyers fee. I have done a lot of research on this and I have found a lot of information. But it took me weeks to find these things. If someone could tell me these things, I would know it all in about 30 mins.
If someone is doing the processing, please drop a line or two to give us some knowledge about the process and different steps within the process. Lets save everyone some time and effort and money (no lawyer=save money).
thanks!

Hi 4142008, your thread will be really helpful to people like me. I am really fed up, staying in bench for more than 5 months and going thru different training. I talk with a lawyer regarding the immigration process. He was asking me that I need to show work experience of supervisor or managerial level of upto 2 years. Now, my question is can I ask someone in Nepal to get me an experience letter (fake). Are they going to confirm with the office (whether I worked there for 2 years or not). Coz if they ask for confirmation I might be on trouble, since the letter will be fake.
Waiting for your suggestions.

it is better not to have something fake...tara tehi ho, nepal ma ramro chineko manche chha banai dina sakne bhane ta kehi hunna...sabai le gari ra chhan...occupation should be in either O, A or B. Managerial position nai hunu parchha bhanne chhaina...as managerial positions fall in O, you can choose to have some other things that fall in either A or B.
http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC-CNP/docs/Matrix_Poster_English.pdf
this tells you about the occupations in O, A and B and different positions under each. Then go to NOC and find out more detail about the occupation that matches ur job experience. Maile yetti kura bujhna 15 days jati lagyo, coz I was doing all this research by myself. I hope it will be a lot of help to you and that you will be able to see things clearly now...
mero kehi questions chai aajhai chadai cha...proof of funds budi ko bank account dekhauda hunchha hola ki nahola? I do not have much money, but she has her account back home where she has enough. Will that work? or does the primary applicant need to have that much money in his bank account? Please let me know if anyone has an answer...
please help me keep this thread alive, with good suggestions...

4142008,
Is it mandatory to give IELTS even if you have US degree?

I have been studying in the US for past 5 years...I have my masters from here...still to be on the safe side I did take IELTS test...trust me, its not tough at all...you will be taking GENERAL one, not academic, so, its not tough...but its not mandatory. As they say on their website, you can use recommendation letters from your professor and if you have worked, your work experience letter from here, you should not need it. But they might give you lesser point than you deserve...if you take IELTS and have a score of 7.0 or higher in all the sections, you will get 4 in each section...a total of 16...if you don't take the test, it will be subjective for them and they might give you whatever they think is appropriate...it can be lesser than 16 as well...so, to be on the safe side, I suggest you take it. Plus, I have read blogs of so many people who were requested to take it later...Its better to take it now and submit everything at once so that your file will be complete and it will take lesser processing time...good luck with the process-if you are doing it...I strongly suggest you do, even if you have h1 in here...i am on h1 and I am still applying...

4142008 Jee,
Thank you so much for the info.
By the way, do you recommend any books or materials for preparing IELTS? I won't have much time for it, but I think I better take it just to make the process easier.
As Diggy said, do you have an overall idea of what documents are required?
My main worries is the job opportunity over in Canada, coz I already have a good job over here. And how is the job market in Canada? Any idea? I have aked people in Canada about it, but as always those who have job and are settled seem to say all the good things, and those who are looking seem to say bad things. I exactly dont have an idea? Is it the around same as in US?

Is this link good enough to check for the PR application or there are other things as well?
http://www.cic.gc.ca/EnGLIsh/immigrate/skilled/apply-who.asp
In the Section Two of the self assesment test, if you get 7.0 on IELTS then we will get full 16 points right?
What about the french section " How can I get the Basic Profficiency? Just knowing very very basic things will be enough or you need some course on that?
What about the experience section? I had worked on one software company. Basically we started that company and everybody is here in states. So there is no physical existence of the company but in paper it still exists. So will that experience works or I should get some fake experience from the existing companies?
Also I had worked as a GA for one professor. So will that experience also counts?

exactly, those who have the jobs will say good things and those who don't will say the bad...So, I am thinking I can take the chances...
What I have found is especially for those who are in the occupation that is regulated, its tough (for example, doctors, nurses, etc, as they will have to do the certification, or board exam or whatever...but then its the same in here as well...). For those who already have 15 years of experience in something, they will not get the job of that level and the will feel frustrated....but for us, we are just starting..so i am sure it is not that bad...
For IELTS...trust me i did not read anything...just go over a little over how long the essays/letter should be...they say in words (150 words, 250 words) which I was not used to with...other than that, its pretty simple. You can go to the ielts website and get the samples from there and you will see for yourself that you really can;t do much preparation for it, unless you want to spend like a month for it and see everything you want...
I am not an expert in this field...its just that I have been doing a lot of research on Immigration to Canada...that is how I know a few things...If there are anyone who actually are in the process, please drop your comments in here so that we can benefit from you experience as well...

maayakobarima ji,
I think you can ask your friends (from nepal, who were you partners, but who are here now) to write you reference letter. I think that will work. In that case, you can either go as a programmer, web developer or system analyst, whichever closely related to the things that you did...i am sure that will work.
good news is, the work that you did for your professor counts...i will send you the NOC code for that tomorrow, as I need to check it again...i did work as a ga as well and I have figured out that it works...it falls under group A. we both are good to go!
If you get 7.0 or higher, you will get 4 in each section (16 total). if you get below 7 in any section, you will get lesser point in that specific section. so, your score might be 16, 14, 12 etc, depending upon what you get. But i think its hard not to get 7.0, honestly.
yea, you are in the right site...www.cic.gc.ca...but I have been following a lot of other blogs and stuffs and well...that tells me things in great detail where as cic.gc.ca might tell me something vague...

If you are an H1b holder you may apply for Alberta Strategic recruitment stream (canada) the processing is very fast . It is not under general quota but under provincial nominee. Alberta (canada) introduced this program on july of this year. No Ielts, no 67 points reqm. no job offer but remember this is only for H1 holders.

Thanks 4142008 for your priceless information.
After going through those links, I got confused about different ways of applying. In order to get canadian PR quick should we apply directly to
1. Canadian PR OR
2. Quebec Province
3. Provincial Nominees.
It looks like if we apply in Quebec province then odds of getting PR will he high. Or do we have to apply in both? Did I understood right?
And I will be having Bachelors degree in May 2009. So should I fill the form saying I am gonna get degree in next 6 mths? Will I be still getting same points or less?

to apply for quebec, i think you should be able to understand and speak french to a certain level...which does not work for most of us...you can either try for other provinces or you can go for federal...these are the most viable option right now... And since we will all fall in regular processing (assuming all of us are applying here from the US at buffalo), we cannot submit most papers later...its better to submit everything all at once. Otherwise they might return all the stuffs back. the only thing i am looking forward to know is HAS THE LIST OF 38 OCCUPATION for federal skilled worker come out yet? if anyone knows anything about it please let me know. without someone falling in this list, federal skilled worker option becomes useless.
