गुजरातको बडोदाका प्रतापसिंह राव बेहुला बनेर काठमाडौं भित्रिसकेका छन् । प्रधानसेनापतिको सरकारी निवास ललितपुरको शशीभवनमा बिहीबार 'पूर्व स्वयंवर' समारोह सम्पन्न भइसकेको छ । त्यो समारोहमा भएका मात्र जन्ती हुन् भन्ठान्यो भने यो विवाहको महत्त्वलाई रौं बराबरको ठानेसरह हुन्छ । हुन त यही समारोहका लागि शशीभवन भित्रिएका दर्जनौं गाडी देखेर छिमेकीहरू चकित भइसकेका छन् ।

बेहुलीघर आफैं बेहुलीझैं सजिएको छ । मयुर, मृग, बँदेल, हाँस, दुर्लभ चराहरू पालिएको शशीभवन दुई हजारभन्दा बढी सैनिकहरूले चिटिक्क सिँगारेका छन् ।

भारतबाट जेट एयरका तीन चार्टर्ड विमानबाट 'कोभन्दा को कम' खाले जन्ती आएपछि विवाहको माहोल बेग्लै हुनेछ । भोज कतिवटा छन् भन्ने यकिन जानकारी कमैलाई छ । शुक्रबार हुने स्वयंवरदेखि भोजको सिलसिला पाँच दिनसम्म लगातार राजधानीका विभिन्न आकर्षक केन्द्रमा चल्नेछ ।

भोजहरूको सामान्य गन्ती र अनुमान गर्दा कम्तीमा १२ हजारलाई उत्कृष्ट भोजनको प्रबन्ध गर्नुपर्नेछ । खासमा भन्ने हो भने पहिलाको योजना नौ दिनसम्म विवाहका कार्यक्रम निर्धारित थिए । 'पछि किन हो, चार दिन घटाइयो,' व्यवस्थापनमा खटिएका एक सुरक्षा अधिकारी भन्छन् ।

विवाह भोजका लागि शशीभवन, बबरमहल रिभिजिटेड, हयात होटल, आर्मी अफिसर्स क्लबलगायतका स्थान तोकिएका छन् । प्रधानमन्त्री, मन्त्री, नेता, कूटनैतिक नियोगका पदाधिकारी, उच्च पदस्थ कर्मचारी, आफन्त, बहालवाला र पूर्वसुरक्षा अधिकारीहरूलाई अलग-अलग स्थान र समयमा भोज र आशीर्वादका निम्ति आमन्त्रण गरिएको छ । शुक्रबार साँझ जन्तीका लागि बबरमहलमा भोज चलिरहेका बेला करिब एक हजार 'विशिष्ट पाहुना' बेहुलीघरमा हुनेछन् ।

राजदम्पतीसहित गन्यमान्यले बेहुलीलाई आशीर्वाद दिनेछन् । त्यतिखेरको भोजको परिकारका लागि निकै ध्यान पुर्‍याइएको अधिकारीहरू बताउँछन् ।

विवाहको मूल कार्यक्रम भने आइतबार हुँदैछ । परम्पराअनुसार विवाह सम्पन्न भएपछि त्यही दिन राति शशीभवनमै भारतबाट झिकाइएका शास्त्रीय नर्तकीहरूले 'मुजरा' देखाउने छन् । मुजरा नृत्यका लागि ठूलो आकारको गोलो चकटीको विशेष प्रबन्ध गरिएको छ ।

विवाहको समापन भने सोमबार साँझ हयात होटलमा हुनेछ जहाँ नेपाल र भारतका सबै विशिष्ट पाहुनालाई विशेष रात्रिभोज दिइँदैछ । 'त्यसमा करिब तीन हजार जनासम्म

पाहुना हुनेछन्,' अर्का सुरक्षा अधिकारी भन्छन् ।

भारतबाट आउने कम्तीमा चार सय जना जन्तीलाई एकै ठाउँ राख्न सम्भव छैन । विभिन्न पाँचतारे होटलका कोठा बुक गरिएका छन् । त्यही कारण होटल सोल्टी र हयातका क्रमशः ८० र ५० वटा कोठा लिइएका छन् । के बिर्सन हुन्न भने सुविधासम्पन्न भीआईपी स्विट कोठाहरू सबैजसो रिजर्भ गरिएका छन् ।

सुरक्षा निकायका उच्च पदस्थ र सम्भ्रान्तहरूबीच भोजको निम्ता पाए/नपाएको खुबै खुल्दुली फैलिएको छ । सेनाका एक पूर्वअधिकारीले आफूलाई निम्तो आएको बताउँदा 'यस प्रकारको ठूला र भव्य भोजको तयारी राजदरबारबाहेक अन्यत्र अनुभव नगरेको' खुलाए ।

यस्तो ऐतिहासिक भोजको आनन्द लिँदा ऐन-कानुन बिर्सिदिनुपर्छ । कानुन पालना गर्ने हो भने त जेलै परिन्छ । सामाजिक व्यवहार सुधार ऐनले विवाह, व्रतबन्ध, पास्नीजस्ता सामाजिक उत्सवमा ५१ जनाभन्दा बढीलाई जन्ती बोलाउन र भोज खुवाउन प्रतिबन्ध गरेको छ । 'उल्लंघन गर्ने जोकोहीलाई दण्डित गर्दै जेलसमेत पठाउन सकिन्छ,' एक प्रमुख जिल्ला अधिकारी भन्छन् ।

प्रधानसेनापति मात्र किन ? आफू प्रमुख भएकै मौका पारेर यसअघि नेपाल प्रहरी र सशस्त्र प्रहरी बलका प्रमुखहरू क्रमशः श्यामभक्त थापा र सहवीर थापाले यही वर्ष हजारौं पाहुनालाई आफ्ना छोरीको विवाहमा सत्कार गरेका थिए ।

संयोगै हो, तीन सुरक्षा निकायका प्रमुखहरूको छोरीको विवाह भोज लहरै खान पाउनेहरूको संख्या भने धेरै छैन होला ।

Nepal is heading towards right direction. The government elected by people should have all state power not a permanently people sucking king. Biggest punishment should be for the king. They should be stripped off their properties and put on the street to reward them for their generation of exploitation. If Girija and Prachanda can do it they deserve some praise. That doesn't mean pardoning all the crimes commited by Maoists. As long as Maoists are concerned, murderers should not be released from jail even now. It may not be possible to see the exact things we wanted but if the system is setup right, Maoists can be convicted as soon as CA completes constitution draft.

Nobody knows what will be the future plan for socio-economic developement coz there is none. Everybody is after Ganatantra. I am not saying it is a bad target but what next?

Prachanda will be happy coz the part of the plan will be successful. So what? And, how are we going to live with it? That means anything can happen in this country with full of Bhedas and Bokas. Even Politicos dont understand the play of politics. On the one hand, Maoists are about to come out of the jail, on the other, yesteryears political elites are going to lockup.
Present constitution wont allow the SPA to suspend the amry chief. First, constitution needs to be amended so that further action can be taken--since the head of army is king himself.

Let's hope for better nepal, original nepal where Peace prevails. But still I smell a rat!! Wish not. !!!!!

But weird thing is I was listening to bbc nepali service interview with FM Ram Sharan, he claims that he did not know about it, he learnt about this from radio.

If its true, then what the heck was he doing celebrating "good" friday. Also how can 5 ex-minister be arrested, and 3 security chief suspended, but how can Finance Minister not know about it.


It is something shady....

BTW why Giri and Sarad C. Shah spared, they should be arrested too.

Bista he was not that harsh against democratic fight, so he can be spared I guess.

Jiradai, I got your point man. I also share the same sort of sentiment to a decent extent.

I am tired of hearing down with the king/monarchy. Fine, I don't care for the monarchy. In fact, I already removed the king and said "ok, Nepal is a republic...Now what?" We got to have sound socio-economic plans for tomorrow otherwise this "SPA movement" juice dries out soon and we are left with Nepal Bandh, and Chakka jam again.

Arresting, and prosecuting bad guys are good and should be done but the process should be fair. Shouldn't prosecute only those bad guys who are in the corner now. How about other murders who keep on roaring standing by the blood pool they created?

I careless when will the king cease to exist but I do care when will the strong, viable, and honorable socio-economic plans with attainable measures are introduced to us. King or no king, without sound socio-economic structures democracy means "hadtal, and banda bandi". This is what I think but what do I know ...well other than gallies in hadigau..silver kachauras in bhattis...and some allies in Baoudhha behind the stupa on the left...and few things around Biswarup...and things like that.

Pyar jung lai chahi chhori ko bihe samma garna diyeko hola. Their is a speculation that pyar jung thapa did play a role in gyanendres decision to return the power ( even though it was actually janta le khoseko)

La Pyare, chhori ko bihe ma garnu kharcha gar, terai bau ko gar desh ko nalut ani mamaghar jana thikka par.

This is a controversial decision as many people talk about its equity and fairness. If we are to arrest these criminals, how can we compromise with maoists who led to the death of more than 12000 people? Katmandu: Royals, corporate czars and a sprinkling of movie stars are converging in Nepal for a ritzy, high-profile wedding that many hope will ease tensions after months of political chaos and lure tourists back to the Himalayan kingdom.

The wedding—between an Indian royal and the daughter of Nepal's army chief—will be the country's first major social event since last month's bloody pro-democracy protests forced King Gyanendra to relinquish power he seized 14 months earlier.

"The wedding will lift spirits and help overcome the gloom and doom we are going through after so much turmoil and problems," said Gautam SJB Rana, managing director of Baber Mahal Revisited, a century-old royal building converted into a shopping and restaurant complex.

In the wedding on Sunday in Katmandu, Pratapsinhrao Gaekwad—a member of an Indian royal family that once ruled over the country's western Baroda kingdom—will marry Nepal's Pragyashree Thapa.

Pragyashree is the daughter of General Pyar Jung Thapa, commander in chief of the Royal Nepal Army.

After a long communist insurgency followed by political upheaval in Nepal, rioting in recent weeks killed at least 19 people before Gyanendra relinquished his grip on power and restored Parliament. Many see the wedding as a happy break.

The 35-year-old groom, Gaekwad, heads textile company Baroda Rayon and lives in Mumbai. Pragyashree, 25, is a doctor and a lieutenant in Nepal's army.

In addition to the welcome distraction of the festivities, the gathering of elites and celebrities—and the media attention they're getting—could also help ease the fears of tourists who've stayed away since the uprising against the king in April.

"All Nepalese should have a feeling that we are over with the problems, and we should invite tourists," said businessman Om Rajbhandari.

This whole episode is so weird, why AP reporting it as major event after parliament restoration. For god sake it is just a freaking army chief's daughter wedding. More than half the money he is spending in this gala event was sucked from poor nepalese. AP and reporter should be condeming the event than promoting it. A freaking corrupt royalist army chief's daughter wedding....

Nice blog article, I totally agree with this blogger. Poorest country in the world but a Army chief with monthly salary of less than 30,000 is able to pull of one grand public wedding. I do not have much sympathy for those arrested but this is largely a symbolic and political act that does not appear to hold much legal ground. "Making speeches to disturb public peace" is unlikely to withstand judicial scrutiny, which I am sure is bound to happen because Mr Thapa and company, I feel, are bound to knock on the doors of the very courts they treated with contempt.

As for the suspensions of the security chiefs, I feel this decision is right and it shows the government has balls. This will be further reinforced if Gen. Pyar Jung Thapa is suspended in the next couple of days which, amongst other things, could pave the way for the Army to come under civilian control.

At one point King's words were laws, Now SPAs words are. Tomorrow - who knows whose words become law in Nepal. This is what Rule of Law means/meant back home. Words in the book of laws were for the poor citizens. What law applies/applied to the people depends/depended upon political, socio-economic strength of the people in question.

When we talk about bringing offenders to the justice, we should not forget what "Justice" means. "My way or highway" should not define justice but I am a bit worried.

I hope SPA will understand the spirit of the people and move on.
