You know better than anybody else ( I am bowled over by the depth of your knowledge about Hindi songs: singers, writeres, musicians, and even films... wow!!) that " Foolo ki Ranga Se, Dil Ki Kalam Se" wasthe first of its kind in Hindi filmdom in that it was in chaste Hindi, not a word of Urdu!! Am I right?

Once upon a time in Israel, we were at a bus stop to see off an Indian student (his name was Deepak too) who was leaving for home. Among us were a dozen of Nepali and Indian friends. Among Indians were a girl who was naturally closer to the boy leaving for home, although there was this Hind[u]-Muslim religious distance as well.

We were waiting for the bus to arrive and the atmosphere was somber. I was thinking of something to cheer up all. I turned to the girl and said, "Parveen, are you sad ?".

She said, "No, I am not, why should I ?"

"Really ?"

"yes, I am fine."

"I can make you cry, shall I ?"

"Yes, why not ? Go ahead."

Then I started to sing the song, "Zindagi ke safar me guzar jaate hai jo maqaam.."

Oh boy ! Before I finished the first line, she started to cry aloud and uncontrollably. Well, on my shoulder !

After my turn of comforting, people took their turn to comfort her. Deepak, apparently shaken by what just happened and by the song as well, gave a full and long hug to Parveen and said, "Don't worry, we will keep in touch and see again."

When it was my turn to see her off a year or so later, I made sure I do not sing that song. It did not work, however. It was a tearful and sobbing farewell anyway.

Here is a song from "Lekin" in one of Lata's most whole-hearted rendition.

One of the most beautiful songs ever created with an amazing combination of amazing words, music and voice.

No other song has put me in a melancholy as deep and titillating as this one has.

Listen to experience in each word literally a century of lonely waiting. It's that much powerful.

Yes, Simpu. 'Yara Sili Sili' too. It's equally beautiful but less melancholy.

As a matter of fact, 'Yara Sili Sili' is the only song I listened to most of the time when I flip the album of 'Lekin'.

'Ek Sadi Se Baithi Hun' is too strong for easy listening.

It's irony that the one think is the most beautiful is the one I do not dare to listen to.

That has happened with me with non-musical stuff too. Well, I am not going to write about that here. But might it be some psychology ?
