Mr33Sajha,

I can assure you there are very slim chances of this being renewed for Nepal for long term. Even if it gets renewed, it will most likely be for a few months where they will tell people to prepare for the termination. Donald Trump's hard stance on immigration is changing immigration ideology rapidly. He has already inserted his people at various parts of the government.

Most likely it shall be extended for at least few years I assume! I can see lots of other countries being extended for years and years So, just assuming it should be extended.
If not atleast it be extended for 6 months so pppl can get time for adjusting the status. Lets be positive and lets pray it would extend for more years!
Jai Nepal

In April 2018 we will find out if TPS will be extended fully for Nepal or not. At a minimum even if it is terminated, we should get 6 months until December 2018 for an orderly transition. However, given the small number of TPS recipients from Nepal, it is likely to get renewed for another 18 months. There has not been much recovery from the earthquake in Nepal per recent international reports. For people who like to point Haiti's termination, Haiti has recovered 90-95% from their 2010 earthquake damages (recent hurricanes have made it worse but they don't drive the TPS decision). While the decision to not extend their TPS was political, it was justifiable nevertheless based on facts that decide a country's TPS status. Not extending Nepal's TPS would not be justifiable by facts. Also, Nepal's potential TPS extension could be used as a show to compensate not extending TPS for some other countries with higher number of beneficiaries in my opinion. South Sudan's TPS was recently extended for 18 months. Anyway, we shall find out 60 days prior to expiration of current TPS.

The president's immigration policy tends to be against the southern border and Muslim countries, this stance resonates well among his core supporters. The decision to extend the TPS is up to secretary of DHS - secretary of state - the POTUS (that order). I don't think the president will not honor the recommendation from Kirstjen - Tillerson - John Kelly - Trump (that order). There is very good new about the current DHS secretary Kirstjen Nielsen. Kirstjen has done study of Nepal following devastating 2015 earthquake. Kirstjen is former president of Sunesis Consulting based in DC and you can find the article and full report about the (Nepal's) earthquake disaster/recovery efforts which she authored here.

Yes I will agree that we will find news on April 2018 for whats next to come. As for the extension part, I suggest preparing for the worst. History suggested that TPS has been extending for years and years. HOwever Rashtrapati jiu le history ko maha behen gardisaknu bho so J ni huna sakcha.
