Now that Nepal has become a secular state, I, a Upadhyaya Bahun, want to marry a Gurungni or Newarni--preferably a Gurungni. I still prefer "arranged" marriage. Is this still possbile for a matchmaker in Nepal? Remember, I am not talking about love marriage......

Well, since it is you who asked, the question back to you is:

Are you worth holding the hand of Gurungni or Newarni or Kamini or Damaini or, for that matter, even Upadhay Bahunni?

If the answer is yes, then sure you can ask your parents to make the necessary arrangements.

FYI, this has nothing to do with Nepal being a secular nation.

Secular.. do you even understand what it means? making a nation secular doesn't mean that now you are allowed to marry any caste girl.. not at all....

Secular Nation means the nation is no more hindu nation, or muslim nation. It means all religions have equal rights, equal laws apply to all of the people regardless of their religion.

What sort of multiculturalism do we want Nepal to have: "pluralistic multiculturalism", which is like a federation of state of sorts, or just good old multiculturalism. The distinction is that while the former gives more priority to protecting the rights of various ethnic groups(in other words, we are all equal, but we want to live separately), the latter is all about choice. If you want to marry a magarni or a gurungni, it is your choice.
