ek@l, you mean its a colony? or apt system? then leave it. I am not interested. I know how those houses stand. I had a brother (en) working for chaudhary group. I suggest no one to buy those shits. Anyways thanks dude.
Ok whoever is going to buy a house in Kathmandu Valley I have some suggestions for him/her. As we know that Nepal lies in an active seismic zone and Kathmandu Valley poses the greatest risk of earthquake hazard we need to find that whether that house has beed constructed using earthquake engineering or not. At least what you can do is to look a map called Engineering and Environmental Geological Map of Kathmandu Valley’ published by Department of Mines and Geology and find out whether the house is located in hazardous area or not.
Another suggestion is that try to find out the city development plan of Kathmandu Valley so that you can locate your house in desired land type, for eg. if you want to buy a house near by the proposed second ringroad, you need to find out what is the plan for this road development. My last suggestion is that if you can buy a house built in land gently sloping towards south that will be helpful to catch more sun light.
Mine is in Pulchoke opposite Narayani hotel. 3 story, 6 bedrooms, 2 living rooms, formal dining room, 4 bathrooms, 2 of the bedrooms have attached bathrooms and attached dressing rooms, big kitchen with built in marble shelves, flooring is carpet (in bedrooms), wood (in living room) and marble(in kitchen and hallways and stairs). 2 servant quarters outside with a bathroom. Solar heating. The price is 145 Lakh.
Lau GT tyo Narayane le lina lako ghar ko research gardau na ta please i.e making sure whether that house has been constructed using earthquake engineering or not..yesle koora nikai aagadi poorayechha..yesso sahayog gardau .......
I will definitely give my suggestion to narane when he will buy a house. But it is really good idea to take this kind of precaution for all of us before buying or making a house. DMG has published this kind of map not only for Kathmandu Valley but also for other cities of Nepal, like Pokhara, Dharan, Hetauda. So I request all to use these maps to know about the risk of hazard. Government has invested a large amount of money on preparation of these maps.
help me22,
If you are in Nepal, you can get these maps in three places in Department of Mines and Geology. But over there you have to contact people working for Nepal Geological Society. There is one map shop in New Baneshwor, near to the bridge called Nepal Map House and there is another one in Thapathali. But if you are in US, I can't help you right now. I had scanned the map of Kathmandu Valley but I couldn't do it with color. So I will try to rework on this map and post over here in sajha so that many people can have look on that.
Thanks for your kind support, I believe if you were able to scan it in B/W, Color shouldnt be a problem it would be great help for our community to have those kind of info.
I found a house in Gongapu area can you look into the map and let me know if its safe zone.
I will really try to help you. I also got your mail. But I think it will be better if I write this in public. I suggested to use Environmental and Engineering Geological Map of the Kathmandu Valley before buying a piece of land or buildings. But that geological map only is not sufficient tool. However, it will give you rough idea about the risk of hazard in particular area. But there are several things besides that, for eg. what type of foundation has been used for the house, how deep inside the foundation has been made, what is the ratio between the height and the width of the house, if house has only two rooms in one flat and house itself is five storey tall then definitely it has risk of failure. So If you are investing huge amount of money then it will be better to do satability analysis of the building before buying. I will try to find out the risk of hazard in the area that you have mentioned in the mail. I really can't upload the map I have with me right now because its too big and more over difficult to read. But here is the link of the map which I have been talking over here. At the bottom right side of the map you will see another piece of the map that is showing risk of the hazard. The red color means the highest risk and the green means the lowest rist. But I am sure that you will be not able to read this.
