Went to DMV to renew license with the Federal Notice of automatic EAD extension paper from USCIS for 540 day and with old EAD card but they said cannot issue the license with old EAD card. TPS and EAD is been reviewed since 3 months and still pending whereas license is about to be expired. Need license to drive so any positive suggestion or comment on this if your are familiar with this issue esp. in North Carolina? Thank you in Advance.

Try a different DMV. When I went to renew mine with a new EAD expiring on 6/24/2025, they said they don't renew the A12 category. I was taken aback and they couldn't explain why. They asked me to call DHS. I left and went to another DMV, and they renewed it without any issues.

No problem with new EAD but mine is still pending and under review since 3 months and that is the issue and I think they should do with old EAD (540 days auto extension of EAD).

I would still try another DMV and request to speak to a supervisor.

I renewed mine with I-797 receipt notice of EAD that included the auto extension rule. I did mine in texas.

So on that receipt notice 797 it will have auto extension rule written or you got separately downloaded?

It should be in the Notice of Action (797)

When you go to DMV and run your SSN# it should automatically pull the extension. If they give you issue call for supervisor l.

FIY - Drivers license is the privilege not your right, calling supervisor you're being Karen. Different state have different laws and rules. Some state cannot provide you compliant drivers licence without unexpired documents (they cannot issue just with the FRN), so ask about the non compliant drivers licence, these licence they will issue for 8 yrs.
Only difference between compliant and non compliant driver's license is you cannot buy fire arm and cannot use in the Airport.

You're welcome! Don't be discouraged if you encounter any issues. If one DMV gives you trouble, try another and ask to speak to a supervisor. It worked for me, and the old EAD and I-797 NOA paper should be enough.
