gundaa I understand what you are saying and I know I am generalizing. Why am I doing this? Coz that's the general view of most of people. Didn't you feel that white people act condescending while you were new here? Weren't you feel that Black people being agressive and Hispanics a bit unpolite and mean? I am not stating my views, it is well known phenomenon of those races. When you have to confront unknown person, first you generalize them and only after you know the person, then you omit that view about that person. I am giving him suggestion by generalizing the facts. I am not telling him to behave with those people in accordance. Just because your Mexican friend is nice to you doesn't mean all Mexicans are nice, you are also generalizing here. Generalization is not done by knowing the particular group of people. It is done knowing their culture and history. I say most Nepalese don't have that attitude and can't speak for themselves. Well, I am generalizing here too, but it is the fact.

I think USA is no more racist than any country in the world and is certainly more progressive on race matters than Europe is. Europe (especially France, Scandinavia, and Germany) has not even begun to address racism in its soil, let alone acknowledge its existence. The thing is Europe prefers to brush race issues, if any, under the carpet of broad "immigration issues" [subsumes them, that is] and pretend the former doesn't even exist. A smart cover-up strategy indeed! Having said that, methinks tallying the frequencies of isolated 'race-related' riots or incidence of race-related violence in any country and using that as a basis for cross-country (or cross-regional) comparison is a poor measure of the relative prevalence of racism. Methinks, for lack of a suitable index, it may be more apt to look at the prospects for upward mobility of racial groups instead. To take a much-cited example, Afro Americans such as Colin Powell and Condelezza Rice, and even Hispanics and Asians can aspire to the HIGHEST PUBLIC OFFICE of the land and actually get there. Can any one give me at least one high-profile counterpart example from Europe? Sauravojha, if upward mobility is what you want, I would tend to think that your odds are much better in USA in general than in Europe. My two cents!

I would say GO FOR IT... you wanna move... GO HAPPY... ENJOY! As far as rascism goes... We (as in Nepali's) are one of the most rascist people in the world. I think that applies to almost all South Asians... So dont worry about it... you lived with it all your life... You can live as a minority and experience it in a different light! Enjoy!

Nepalis are the most open and the most non-racist in the world; this is generalization but a good one. What a contrast in belief! Nepalis blend well in new environment and learn quickly as well. :-) -Shiv

I wouldn't say Nepalese are the most racist people in the world. Nepal being a predominately Hindi society, people just didn't choose to be racist. It has its deep history of caste system which was infused into the society a very long time ago...the days of Rig Veda. Racism in US is based mainly on color of skin while racism in Nepal is based on caste system. Hinduism doesn't preach caste system. Caste System is the greatest curse on Hinduism. Hindus should do what Christians did. Even though slavery is mentioned and accepted as a practice in the Holy Bible, even though during Civil war many such as Jefferson Davis quoted from the Bible to support slavery, Christians took it upon their chin and eliminated slavery completely. But although slavery has become illegal in US, and the society has progressed in terms of education, technology & wealth, racism based on color is still prevalent today. As more & more people in Nepal get educated, rise up from poverty, inter-caste marriages, learn more about their religion, people will & have begun to re-think the evils of caste system. I sincerely pray and hope, caste system eventually will go away, making it a relic of the history. I guess we as a society need to change our own minds & teach our children that caste system is old schoolz thought. If we can do this, then we will have eliminated the greatest curse & evil that has inflicted our society.

Sauravojha, If you find UK virtually racism free or close to non-existent, chances are you will have anything but similar opinion about US. This is a country of immigrants, so on "paper" it should be more receptive of an immigrant. Personally, I can not recall any significant bitter experience apart from some minor scuffles in some bars. (That redneck was completely foul mouthed and drunk and basically started shouting at couple of friends to go back to our country. We had some minor altercations. Conclusion: We were all thrown out of the bar.) But this was one-off incident, and in places as such, can not be entirely ruled out. But everyday living is different and it is as good as ANY country in this world. Since, you said, you are a "bio nuclear lab technician" with an offer without obligation; chances are ripe that you will have as good a life as an immigrant can dream of. So, if you do not have anything significant to lose in UK, hop in the bird and welcome to the Uncle Sam's world. Just out of pure curiosity - is resident nurse and bio nuclear lab technician the same thing? Go easy on me; I am in the dark side of this profession, thus... :) For someone in UK, You keep a good tab on Yankees and Boston's eternal feud. They just love each other, don't they? : ) IndisGuise:)

SO Pal congrats on your हरियो पत्ता, Lots of people that you have spoken with are wrong(there is no lots of racism in America unless you are a neigbor of a whitesupremist KKK member).Racism in UK virtually non-existant?Really even after post-July 7 bombings and the aftershocks(and sideeffects) of Paris suburbia "Tandav-nritya"of frustrated second generation immigrants.Thats impressive. You can get mugged and shot anytime(not just night)if you are lost in Camden,PA(or any ghetto-slums of inner cities).True!(Luckily, you won't find Nepalese living in one of those neighberhoods).Food?Well,I am hoping you are planning to be a part of workforce USA,Inc so that is the least of concern. Weather! Well, weather being a proud member among three most unpredictable W's aside woman and work. Not sure about that? And there a newest member inunpredictable W sequel called George W;) Good Life! It depends on your definition of good life? For some if their basic priorities in life are fulfilled thats a good life.(which is certainly possible in america) Best places to live! Forbes magazine just recently voted "Morristown,NJ" as the place to live in USA which is only couple hundred miles from "Camden,PA"the worst place to live so.It depends. An urban chic would prefer LA or NY but a family oriented would not. Jobs Oppurtunity/ies! Ask career counselors on this a also depends upon your line of work. No racist people! Do you like going to a honky-tonk salon with walls full of Nascar drivers? If yes then you will be gazed upon.(my sole personal experience). If not you will be fine. Cheap houses! Trust be bro you are asking for a "laddu" and "Rasmalai" at the same time. And I wished life was that fair. But hey may be thats possible too!! Bon Voyage on your newest exploration! My Rx for now!

Racist America ? ha ha ha And Nepal is not ? The form of descrimination in Nepal is worse than in US. And here is a moron asking the age old question... if so and so country is racist. he he The moment you migrate from your home and country, you are bound to meet racism in one form or another. Just like Nepal descriminates against people that look like Indians, Tibetans, or inbetween(hybrids). THE SIMPLETONS HERE NEED TO LOOK IN THE MIRROR BEFORE THEY START POINTING FINGERS.

iZen, Camden is not PA but NJ. Isn't it weird that both Camden and Moorestown are in NJ and have been voted "most dangerous" and "best place to live" in USA for 2005?

For someone in UK, You keep a good tab on Yankees and Boston's eternal feud. They just love each other, don't they? : ) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hehe, simply adorable. Just could not leave this wonderful comment alone by itself....ahhhhh tso chweet...feed me with more of these goodies. :P Anyways back to the origin and something I wanna repeat----racism is not the issue. Segregation is the issues long as we as a society find it ok to interact with only our 'own' race we will never achieve understanding of others cultures. THIS IS IMPORTANT!! And don't forget racism will not end until there is only one race. Whether that is from genocide or long enough interracial breeding. Problem is discrimination will never end. That's why humans can sense things are different from another. Home is where the heart is. So, you decide the rest and be happy no matter in which part of world you are. Oh myyyy, I love the song Phool ko aankha ma phoolai sansara, kada ko aankha ma kadai sansara...SIMPLY LOVELY... :) Om Shanti...

Just stay where you are if it is bothering you that much abt racism. Racism is everywhere, it's in every human blood, "wonder why many nepalese hates indians" or "Most white americans hate any other race". It's your up bringing, you will need to learn to survive in this circle of life. Remember we are living in time capsule - it is short and it my friend is a living hell. It's a doggy world out there fello`s, someone is always there to get you or your spot. Make the best outta your stay in the hell so you can go go heaven.
