Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

From the poem: "Phenomenal Woman" by Maya Angelou

But this thread is in dedication of all Nepali women, baby, including your mom and sis. You don't have a problem with me respecting and appreciating your mother do you?

Rahasya,

So your mom and sister are not Nepali? And they are not Indians either?

Just being a Nepali women is phenomenal? Please elaborate!

I don't think the poem you put up there justifies your statement or maybe I simply failed to decode the your perception! ; )

Help me understand the depth of it (if there is any), will ya?

Grace,

You don't agree with Maya Angelou's poem? Or you don't feel that the poem applies to Nepali women?

Let me rephrase my question/curiosity! I just wanted to hear your take on proving the correalation between the poem and being phenomenal Nepali women. ; )

Grace,

I see no contradiction.

Obviously you see huge contradictions.

So either you are not a woman. Or you don't consider yourself to be phenomenal. Or you don't consider yourself to be a Nepali.

So which of the three is it?

Grace,

Where are you? Did my question wipe your smiles away?

I was anticipating a well-thought discussion that would trigger thought process! Do I need to say more?

I believe the poem talked about women being phenomenal regardless of where they come from. Correct me if I am wrong!

So you don't consider yourself to be a phenomenal woman despite being a Nepali. That's a shame.

Do you have self-esteem issues, sister?

Grace,

Hows your thought process working? Your motor seems a bit jammed.

Why don't we both do that. Lord knows there are a lot of minds that need triggering on sajha: both men's and women's.

Anyway's, I welcome one more female voice coming out of the wood works. Seems Rasika Didi and my 'Mahila Morcha Movement' is having some positive effects on both the genders.

I think you should learn to comprehend poems...

Pretty women
wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.

She ain't talking about anybody but herself...and yes she deserves to write about herself because Maya Angelou is a woman of substance, woman with brain...not unlike some Pretty women who are as much hollow as they are pretty outside. And worse, some might be hollow inside and out....Not all deserves to relate to this beautiful poem of hers....
