He said that around 30,000 people of badi community were still struggling to secure their ethnic identity, fundamental rights.

Kathmandu, Jan. 9

A community school has been established by targeting the children of underprivileged badi community faced with longstanding economic and social barriers.

The Christian Community School (CCS) has been established at Mulpani, Kathmandu by Educate Nepal and with the financial aid of international donor agency CCM, Australia.

Inaugurating the school on Sunday, State Minister for Education Lila Bhandari said although the world had entered the 21st century, badi community was still compelled to face difficulties like the women of the 16th century.

The government is working to realize the slogan of "Education for All" soon, she added.

She said that the government was introducing National Badi Commission for the overall development of the badi people living in the different districts of Far-Western and Mid-Western Region.

Binod Pahadi, a Constituent Assembly member, said that the government had failed to execute the agreements established between government and Badi in 2007.

"The assurances have been limited to only in the paper and the flesh trade continues to flourish in the badi settlement," he added.

"After the government banned prostitution in 16 districts, around 200-250 women of badi community is compelled to migrate to India for seeking their livelihood," said Pahadi.

He said that around 30,000 people of badi community were still struggling to secure their ethnic identity, fundamental rights.

"The government must grant the fundamental rights of the community and rehabilitate them back to the society with dignified life," he added.

District Education Officer Baikuntha Prasad Aryal said that still 5 per cent of school going children was deprived of education and the sole effort of the government was not sufficient for providing education to all.

John Lenden, CEO of CCM, said that they were happy to work for the children of badi community of Nepal.

Raju Sundar Das, Chairperson of Educate Nepal, said that CCS was established with the investment of total Rs.10 million and would be operated with the support of the national and international aids.

The school has a capacity to enroll 400 students and will operate the class from K.G classes to grade 5, he added.

A total of 180 badi children from different 16 districts have been admitted to the school so far and staying at the boarding house where they will get all essential care, he said.

The organization has targeted to establish such schools in 75 districts to provide education to the children from the underprivileged communities.

What is your purpose in downvoting this thread? Are you offended by Christianity or by the news story?

It is funny that people are down voting this news story. I didn't write this news story. I am simply posting what Gorkhapatra wrote. Do the facts of life offend you?
So why are you downvoting this thread? Are you offended by the contents of the news story? If you are offended by the news story, then do you think that simply ignoring the problem by down voting this story is going to eradicate the problem?

What is your purpose in downvoting this thread? Are you offended by Christianity or by the news story?

People are downvoting you because you have a very ignorant Title for the subject. Why in the world do you have to put every news post for controversial discussions?
Cant you just post a thread with just the header that says a Christian organization opens school for underprivlized ?
You blame the mistakes of whole Nepalese community and give one example of a school operated by one mission. How the heck is that a same comparision?

So MaxPayne, are you saying that this school is an isolated incident and that Christian influence is not growing in all aspects of Nepali society? Or are you saying that since Christian organizations already have such a deep influence in Nepali society that everyone should readily accept this Christian influence and convert? Or is it rather that you are saying that Christians setting up and doing development work in Nepal have no hidden agenda or motive what so ever and that they are just giving money away from the goodness of their heart?

Which of the above are you saying?

GrgDai,

I don't mind taking constructive criticism.
So in being an attention whore, are you saying that I am acting like a Nepali Bandhar (monkey) ?

What Homey I was saying is  Babal khate is trying to prove his point with a single example.  Nobody is arguing here that a specific religiion is spereading in Nepal and they do social works. I am sure Muslims, HIndus, Buddhists and other Atheists aslo do the same kind of charity work to help others. Nepal doesnt bar and religious practices. In simple terms Babal khate saw 1 example of a school founded by a mission and decided to conclude that Nepalse havent done any thing to solve the problem of the unprivilized.

if you tried to see the source the headline reads: School for underprivileged Badi children, NOT the Failures of Nepalese and how christians came for the rescue.

PS you dont have to cite some blog entry to have a intelligent discussion. That's what language is for.
