http://www.nepalnews.com/archive/2006/nov/nov29/news08.php If the countries were developed based on the gender, ethnicity and tribe of the people ruling the countries, African countries like Zambia, Zimbabawe, and Bangladesh should have been most developed, democratic, educated and economically advanced countries in the world and countries like USA should have fallen back. Zambia was never colonized and has always been ruled by the indigenous Africans but is suffering from civil war for last few decades. I don't have to explain about the democratic situation in Zimbabawe which was declared independent by British a long time ago and has been ruled by Black Africans resulting chaos and curroptions. Similarly, Bangladesh had continiously Women Prime Minister for last decade but still one of the most curropt countries in the world. In contrary, USA never had a black, Women president and has always been ruled by a white male american, still is the world most democratic, developed and educated country in the world. Mr. Prachanda, you have right to nominate any individuals representing your party in parliament from any race, ethnic back ground or gender because the forth coming parliament is going to be worse than "Rastriaya Panchayat" having no accountablity and people's representation as even "Rastriaya Panchayat" members had to go through an election process, how undemocratic it may be. I even wonder if this rhetoric of Mr. Prachanda about "indigenous community" is just to avoid public's negative opinion about the people they will select for parliament as they may lack in decent, educated people capable of understanding rule of governance and parliamentary democracy.

As I mentioned in another thread, I for one applaud this step. Janajatis have been left out and unrepresented for way too long. I might not agree with lot of what Maoists do, but I am supporting this one.

Shouldn’t the criteria to represent be based on one’s ABILITY to represent than one’s ETHNICITY? I am totally for uplifting the indigenous people, but I don’t think we should pick parliamentarian just because one is a bahun, chettri, newar, rai, limbu, tharu or an indigenous person. I think we have had enough of that. Let’s pick somebody who is an educated, principled, unselfish; who thinks about everybody in Nepal, not just his ethnic people. And, this applies to the bahuns or the chettris as well. Let’s start by promoting education. If Prachanda really wants to do good to Nepal, I suggest him start educating kids rather than enlisting them on his guerilla battalion. Promote equality in every level. By stressing representatives based on ethnicity, he is not doing anything different than what has been done throughout Nepal’s history. We will be just swapping the helm of country. Instead of the bahun and chettri controlling Nepal, we will have indigenous people controlling. Then what??? And deshbhaktanepali, there is a good chance than the next American president will be an African American or a female and I don’t think it has got any thing to do with there ethnic or gender. And, if they indeed become the next president, it won’t be because they were African American or female, but I think it will be because of their ABILITY to convince people that they are better leader.

I do not beleive his claim. First of all, he should make representation of indigenous people in his own party. Babu Ram, Mahara, Janardan sharma, aadi ityaadiharu janjaatika hun ra? Pampha bhushal, hisila yami pani hoinan. Janjaatiko kuro voteko laagi gulio chakhaaune idea matra ho.
